Situated on a shady street just off Paseo Colón, San
José's main thoroughfare, Hotel Grano de Oro is a true oasis, a sanctuary
in the heart of the city. Hotel Grano de Oro occupies a quiet street in the
nation's capital of San José, close to the vibrant city center and numerous
restaurants, theaters and shops.
Home to nearly 1/3 of Costa Rica's 4 million inhabitants, San
José boasts a blend of modern and classic architecture. Notable among
the latter is the spectacular National Theater of colonial vintage. The city
is the political as well as financial & business center of the country,
and the home of several fine universities and museums. Itineraries should include
the Jade Museum, which houses the largest jade collection in the Americans;
the National Museum of history; the Gold Museum with its pre-Colombian treasures;
and the Children's Museum, situated in a former penitentiary. A thriving Central
Market, parks and pedestrian malls add to a visitor's enjoyment.
Just 20 minutes from the International Airport, San José rises 3770
feet above sea level. It shares an ideal climate with the rest of the Central
Valley, averaging daytime temperatures of 75 F. The rainy season (or green season,
as Costa Ricans prefer), begins in May and lasts until late October. During
the day, sunny skies prevail until afternoon showers quench the vegetation for
a few hours and freshen the air. The rest of the year generally brings hot clear
days, and cool fresh evenings.
Hotel Grano de Oro features thirty-two rooms in three categories
as well as three signature suites. All rooms are furnished in Tropical Victorian
styles with wrought-iron beds and rich damask fabrics in three jeweled color
schemes - navy, burgundy and forest-green. The art and furnishings are handcrafted
by Costa Rican artists. No two rooms are alike. Private baths are blue and white
Italian tile adorned with gleaming base fixtures. Our restaurant, our common
areas and all our rooms are non-smoking.
Standard
The smallest and least expensive of the rooms, this category offers cozy quarters
with a queen bed and private bathroom with shower.
Superior
While a bit smaller than the deluxe rooms, most superior rooms have a bathtub/shower
combination and a queen bed.
Deluxe
The most spacious of our three "room" categories, all deluxe rooms
have a bathtub/shower combination and either one queen and one twin bed, two
queen beds, or a king-size bed.
Family Suite
A two-room suite with a queen and twin bed in one room and a queen bed in the
second room, comfortably accommodating up to 5 people.
Garden Suite
A spacious suite with a Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom as well as a small sitting
room, which opens to a private tropical garden.
Vista de Oro Suite
The piece de resistance is the hotel's Vista de Oro Suite. Reached by a private
staircase, the Vista de Oro lives up to its name commanding a breathtaking view
of the Cordillera Central mountain range and the Central Valley skyline. Tiles,
individually handmade in hues of ocher and sienna covers the walls and are complemented
by rich wood paneling. A series of delicate cabinets stretches the entire length
of the room and carefully placed lightning illuminates antique treasures.
Guests delight in the tranquil ambiance of tropical plants
and flowers found throughout the hotel. Additionally, a rooftop garden terrace
with lawnbeds and Jacuzzi provides blissful, secluded lounging.
The Gallery gift shop displaying quality Costa Rican handicrafts is the perfect
place to browse for that special souvenir of Costa Rica. The gardens at Grano
de Oro are both inside and out. A rooftop terrace offers relaxing Jacuzzis and
a spot for secluded sunbathing and stargazing. Service is paramount and the
perpetually smiling staff of the Grano de Oro welcomes guests home time and
time again.
